Defence College of Electro-Mechanical Engineering
The Defence College of Electro-Mechanical Engineering (DCEME) was formed on 2 April 2004 as one of five Defence Training Establishments (DTEs) introduced to deliver coherent and cost effective training across the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence. DCEME brought together a number of separate Service training organizations, all of which were delivering forms of electro-mechanical engineering, with the aim of exploiting synergies to improve training delivery and output, and increase efficiency and effectiveness.〔(DCEME – RAF 22 Gp website )〕
The College consists of a headquarters based at HMS Sultan, Gosport; the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering (RNSME), also at HMS Sultan; The School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (SEME) based at Bordon; the School of Electronic and Aeronautical Engineering (SEAE) at Arborfield; the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ Arms School also at Arborfield; and Number 4 School of Technical Training based at MOD St Athan, south Wales. In addition, the College runs courses in partnership with other training providers, including external companies, in order to deliver the best value for money for defence without compromising standards.〔
DCEME reports to No 22 (Training) Group RAF.
As part of the Defence Training Rationalisation programme, plans are being made to collocate DCEME, the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering and the Defence College of Communications and Information Systems at MOD St Athan in 2014, as part of a commercial partnership with Metrix UK.
